I love that Jesus receives, and accepts, a dinner invitation from a leader of the Pharisees in our Gospel from Luke today. It’s remarkable for a number of reasons, the most obvious being that Jesus hasn’t been especially civil toward the Pharisees.

Time To Make Things Right

Late August marks the anniversary of “Landing Day,” the sale of the first enslaved Africans on American shores in 1619. Their captors had originally stolen about 350 people from West Africa, but as many as half of them died en route, the first of millions who did not survive the Middle Passage.
